Sophia Lillis is an American actress who rose to prominence for playing the role of Beverly Marsh in the 2017 horror film It and It: Chapter Two in 2019. She was recently seen in Netflix’s comedy-drama I Am Not Okay with This as Sydney Novak.
Early life
She was born on February 13, 2002, in Brooklyn, New York, the United States to father David Lillis and mother Juliana Lillis. She has a twin brother named Jake Lillis. When she was a child, her parents split up and her mother married filmmaker and photographer Christopher Mellevold, and also has a stepbrother named Philip. Growing up with her stepfather, Sophia learned how to capture pictures and gradually learned film making. In fact, his stepfather also insisted her to take acting classes at Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute in Manhattan. Apart from this, she learned piano, ballet, and roller skating also.
Sophia Lillis Career
Sophia from a very young age had a keen interest in the entertainment industry. Because of her stepfather Christopher Mellevold, who is a renowned person as a filmmaker and photographer, Sophia was more inclined towards acting. He insisted Sophia attend acting school at Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute in Manhattan. While she was studying there, she signed a deal with an agent and auditioned for various roles. After a few trials, she was finally landed for the role of Beverly Marsh in the horror film It in 2017. But before being featured in It, in did two short films, the first one in 2013 in The Lipstick Stain as Addie and as for Luc in The Garden in 2016.

Due to her exceptional acting skills, Sophia was cast for many more roles such as in the year 2020 she played the role of Beth Bledsoe in the comedy drama film Uncle Frank and then played the lead role of Gretel in the dark fantasy horror film Gretel & Hansel. The film is originally based on the German folklore tale Hansel and Gretel by the Brothers Grimm. Sophia also appeared in Netflix’s I Am Not Okay with This as Sydney Novak, the main role and also featured in an episode of Acing for a Cause as Helen.
